Safariland VIEVU LE5 LITE – Law Enforcement’s First Price-Sensitive Integrated Body-Worn Camera and Digital Evidence Management Solution – Now Available

LE5 LITE camera has security and capabilities large agencies deploy but at lower cost with broad functionality

April 19th, 2017, PRNewswire

ONTARIO, California Safariland® VIEVU®, a brand of The Safariland Group, today announces that its LE5 LITE™ body-worn camera, the industry’s first price-sensitive integrated body-worn camera and cloud-based digital evidence management solution, is now available. The LE5 LITE body-worn camera is a best-in-class, fully-integrated system enabling agencies to implement a comprehensive body-worn camera program at an affordable price.

“This LE5 LITE is a category changer that simplifies the purchase and implementation process for body-worn cameras,” said Scott O’Brien, president of Safariland. “We have removed the complexity while preserving the integrity of secure evidence. This changes the perception about body-worn cameras and storage being expensive, enabling agencies to easily implement a system at a very reasonable cost.”

The LE5 LITE body-worn camera utilizes the fifth generation Safariland VIEVU camera platform and the VIEVU Solution™ software.  This cloud-based digital evidence management solution was built on the Microsoft® Azure Government Cloud and is the first enterprise cloud to directly support the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division. The system benefits from the same security features and much of the storage capacity that large agencies require, while also meeting the demands of smaller budgets. In addition, VIEVU Solution software is user-friendly and quick to deploy, requiring only a website interface and an efficient registration process that enables deployment into the field in as little as 24 hours.

“With agencies today being tasked to do more with less, this technology is multi-functional, going beyond patrol duty and can be utilized by detectives as well as parking enforcement and school resource officers,” said Jason Wine, vice president of engineering and technology at VIEVU. The LE5 LITE camera combines performance, ease of use and convenience, with a secure, cost-effective approach to storing video data.”

Compact and extremely light, the LE5 LITE body-worn camera weighs only 2.7 ounces, less than half the weight of the most common body-worn cameras, yet is tough enough to withstand the everyday rigors of patrol. Durable and robust, the LE5 LITE camera is operable in all weather conditions, including temperatures ranging from minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. The undistorted field of view of its precision 95-degree lens accurately represents an officer’s maximum field of view and distance to ensure the integrity of recorded evidence. Further, the LE5 LITE camera has a battery life of six hours and features Safariland’s proprietary, simple slide on/off switch that covers the lens when the camera is off.

In the field, officers are able to livestream videos and add metadata via WiFi using the Safariland VIEVU smartphone application at any time. For officers who prefer to wait until returning to the office, they can dock their camera in a ten-unit docking station (optional purchase) for simultaneous hassle-free upload and battery recharge.

After the digital evidence has been uploaded to the cloud, the officer is able to add metadata and event details to the case using the system’s browser-based interface.

The LE5 LITE body-worn camera is available at an MSRP of $199, with two options for storage: $20.00 per camera for 50 GB per month and $30.00 per camera for unlimited storage.

VIEVU and Veritone to Bring Multi-Dimensional Artificial Intelligence to Law Enforcement Audio and Video Data

April 4th, 2017, PRNewswire

ONTARIO, Calif. and NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., April 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — The Safariland Group (“Safariland”), the parent company of VIEVU® and a leading global provider of safety and survivability products designed for the public safety, military, professional and outdoor markets, and Veritone®, a leading provider of artificial intelligence solutions, today announced their intent to enter into an agreement to integrate their product offerings to apply artificial intelligence to uniquely extract and process crucial data from police body-worn camera footage. The Veritone Platform will be available to Safariland’s law enforcement agency customers as a complement to VIEVU’s body-worn cameras, accessories and software, later this year.

The integration will allow VIEVU’s customers to upload large volumes of video and audio recordings into the Veritone Platform and process them in near real-time, enabling law enforcement personnel to rapidly extract actionable information for use in investigations, monitoring and training, as well as to respond more quickly and efficiently to public record requests.

“The Veritone Platform will enable law enforcement agencies to save thousands of hours of manual searching by using intelligent audio and video analysis, allowing them to focus time and resources on more mission-critical tasks,” said Chad Steelberg, chief executive officer of Veritone. “The Veritone Platform uses more than 40 best-of-breed cognitive engines, ranging from transcription and face recognition to sentiment analysis to object recognition, which will provide VIEVU’s users the ability to derive comprehensive, actionable insights from their body camera footage in near real-time. Importantly, we have long admired VIEVU’s products and its dedication to innovation, and we look forward to working together to advance public safety with artificial intelligence technology.”

“Joining Veritone’s best-in-class artificial intelligence capabilities with VIEVU’s leading body-worn camera and video solutions has the potential to bring critical, world-class technology into the hands of thousands of law enforcement personnel,” said Terry O’Shea, chief technology officer of Safariland. “The combined offering of the two companies allows law enforcement agencies to sift through data with never before seen accuracy, security, and reliability, greatly reducing the number of hours needed to review footage. Using the Veritone Platform, VIEVU customers will be able to choose various cognitive engines, empowering them to select the best fit for their region or agency.”

The Veritone solution stores users’ private audio and video files securely within the platform, which is run on the Microsoft Azure Government Cloud, the first enterprise cloud to directly support the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division. The Veritone Platform also can operate in closed, localized on-premise implementations and on a wide range of client server configurations.
